Ruth Ramsay
Ruth has worked with the topic of sex for over two decades. She believes that education, recognition and respect as a sexual being is a human right. Ruth has spoken at medical conferences on menopause, helping GPs understand the factors aside from biology that impact women’s libido at midlife. She helps midlife clients recognise that good sex comes about through an interplay of bio-psycho-social factors and empowers them to recognise that positive change is possible.
Ruth is the sex expert for the Postcards From Midlife podcast, and has written about sex and midlife for publications including The i newspaper. Her TEDx talk Revamp Your Sex Life In Six Minutes has had over 3.4 million views.
"Throw away all the 'shoulds' about sex and pleasure, educate yourself on your body and arousal science, and explore on your own terms."
What are your specialist interests?
Sexual pleasure in midlife, sexual exploration as a route to self-discovery, and sex skills as life skills (including consent, boundaries, communication, empathy and creativity).
What one piece of advice would you give to our audience?
Throw away all the 'shoulds' about sex and pleasure, educate yourself on your body and arousal science, and explore on your own terms.
What is missing from the current conversation around women's health?
Widespread education and awareness of even the basics of arousal science. Sometimes me sharing just two or three basic science facts transforms a woman's mindset from, "I'm broken, it's all pointless," to one of optimistic curiosity.
