Laura is an award-winning Registered Nutritionist and author of Eating Well for Menopause. Women’s health and menopause is one of her main areas of interest after realising the lack of credible information available to women. Laura also provides training for fellow health professionals on this topic.

"Whilst more sharing of experience can be positive and supportive, it can also be overwhelming and confusing, especially in the arena of dietary advice."

Tell us about your experience in women’s health

With almost 20 years of experience in public health nutrition and three degrees, I’m keen to share the science in an accessible way to help improve public health. I started my career working in academic research reviewing the scientific evidence and translating it into clear messages. I’ve since had roles in health policy, nutrition science research and communications and in food innovations. Almost ten years ago, I started my own Nutrition Consultancy business and have worked on areas such as sustainable diets and heart health, writing for scientific publications, popular magazines and App content. I’m also the host of the Food Connections podcast and helped develop the Scottish Eatwell Guide.

Why are you passionate about women's health?

The conversation on menopause has been opening up in recent years, and information on diet and nutrition is becoming more accessible. However, some of it remains neither accurate nor helpful. Whilst more sharing of experience can be positive and supportive, it can also be overwhelming and confusing, especially in the arena of dietary advice. Eating well around menopause can help women through this life stage and I’m passionate about helping women feel more informed and confident about making dietary choices to optimise their health and wellbeing.
