Tell us about your experience in women’s health
My work spans clinical leadership, direct patient care, and strategic development across primary care, with a strong focus on reducing health inequalities. I also teach healthcare professionals nationally on menopause care, and work with local and international stakeholders to improve access to high-quality women's health services. I’ve seen a significant gap in accessible, evidence-based menopause care – especially for women in underserved communities. As a pharmacist, I recognised the potential for our profession to play a transformative role in bridging this gap. My passion for women’s health grew from seeing the difference that early, appropriate menopause care could make to someone’s quality of life. What I love most is being able to combine clinical care with meaningful system change. Supporting a patient to feel seen, heard, and helped – especially after months or years of struggling – is incredibly fulfilling. But equally, helping healthcare teams build sustainable women's health services brings long-term impact, and that's what truly drives me.
What one piece of advice would you give to our audience?
Whether you’re experiencing menopause, struggling with your health, or simply not feeling like yourself, don’t dismiss it or wait for things to get worse. Seek support, ask questions, and push for answers. There are effective treatments available, and the right care can be life changing. You are the expert in your own body – trust that and never be afraid to speak up.
What is missing from the current conversation around women's health?
Equitable access to evidence-based treatment – particularly through NHS services. Too many women are still being told to wait it out or are prescribed treatments that don’t align with current guidance, simply due to a lack of specialised clinics or clinician confidence. There is also a significant gap in access to menopause medication, such as HRT and testosterone, especially for women who can’t afford private care. Pharmacist-led NHS clinics are proving that we can safely and effectively prescribe and monitor these treatments within primary care, but these models are still not widely adopted. If we’re serious about closing the gender health gap, we need to normalise offering timely, guideline-based medication through accessible, community-based NHS services – and invest in training and infrastructure to make that the standard, not the exception.
