Taking control: Your menopause appointment guide

Your time with a healthcare professional is too valuable to waste.

This downloadable guide is to support you to have a really good menopause chat with your GP. Spend some time before your appointment filling it in so you can take it with you. It covers everything you and your GP need to know to help you get across what it is that you need in order to feel better. 

Written by GP and menopause specialist, Dr Jane Davis, this guide is to help you make the most of every minute of your appointment.

1. What is your height and weight?  

2. Are you taking regular medications? Yes/No 

3. Any significant illnesses or operations? Yes/No 

4. Do you smoke? Yes/No  

5. How much alcohol do you drink in a week? 

6. Have you measured your blood pressure at home? Yes/No 

Don’t worry if not, your GP record may have a recording. 

7. Do you have a womb? Yes/No

You will need oestrogen and a progestogen unless your womb has been removed (hysterectomy).  

8. Was your last period over 12 months ago? Yes/No 

Perimenopause means your last period was less than 12 months ago. 

9. Are you due for a smear? Yes/No

10. Are you due for a mammogram? Yes/No

11. Do you feel that your symptoms are related to the menopause? Yes/No 

12. Which symptoms are you most concerned about?

13. Are you hoping to be prescribed HRT? Yes/No

14. Have you found out about benefits and potential long-term risks of using HRT? Yes/No  

NO – Ask your GP for information.  

15. Are there HRT risks that you would like to discuss further? Yes/No 

16. Do you have any vaginal dryness or discomfort? Yes/No
